Op-art is a term coined by art critic Lawrence Alloway (1915-1998)[1] that characterizes art's tendency to use "vibrant colour, loud textures and a luminous, illusionistic aesthetic" in order[2] to produce "a visual experience that is esthetically gratifying" but intellectually dissatisfying for the viewer.[3] Operations artists, as it were, engage the spectator in an act of intellectually stimulating but largely self-reflexive "play." Cultural critic Meyer Schapiro links the art of Op to the Dada art of Marcel Duchamp, Tristan Tzara, Max Ernst and Alberto Giacometti.[6] Ambiguity is a cornerstone of the art of Op Art [8][9] and refers to the deliberate blurring of certain boundaries in order to visually and intellectually challenge and probe the context in which we operate. This is central to the notion of altered states of consciousness.

The Move festival began in 2007 and was formerly known as Warp. The event brings some of the best electronic and computer-based music acts from around the world to be played alongside installations, music related talks, hack-athons and much more. Very much a melting pot of creative people, the festival houses everything that surrounds the ephemeral and evolving area that exists between music, technology and culture.
