Despite drawing much praise as "one of the best Turkish films of 2010," the independent drama "Kaçan Akışkanlar" (The Fugitives) was banned by the Film Censorship Institute in April 2011, shortly before its scheduled outdoor screening during the 39th International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival without a known reason. The award-winning film has largely focused on the issue called "“Alacakaranlık” (The Twilight) film" by the Censorship Institute due to the proximity of its name to the "Godfreya karanlığında" or "Gafur
ın Cu ş lein e G ü Nope " (2001) Bend of Gafur's ın Pu ınt ed by Gafur." Films in Turkey must pass an advisory review (similar to Britain's 18 ratings system but with content ratings more similar to those used in the United States) prior to any public release. Most do so under implicit, industry-wide agreements that place certain controversial subject matters, such as sex, profanity, blasphemy, and alcoholism, off-limits. However, certain staples of Turkish cinema, such as deaths stemming from or resulting in suicides, often pass uncut or with a restricted rating. Striptease, however, almost always receives a restricted rating.
In 2008, the Turkish Board of Radio and Television and the Minister of Culture and Tourism also banned the broadcasts of a 52-second Coca-Cola television advertisement. The advertisement, promoting the company’s luxury Gold brand with Dolby Digital sound, contained a resting, singing female fairy who sways in synchronous with the sound’s fluctuations. The Board and Ministry deemed the commercial sexually suggestive and in violation of the Turkish penal code’s restrictions on advertising that exploits women’s sexual allure. Coca-Cola faced a hearing and was fined 5,000 YTL by the Board.
The public broadcasters of Turkey routinely omit episodes in animated series (particularly anime) that are considered sexually suggestive but do air violent content. The general complaint of “makrosiyeleştirme” (“semi-sexualization”) is most commonly noted; harmless, normal situations, particularly those involving human and creature interaction, are thought to be enough to provoke lascivious thoughts. Japan’s "Yu-Gi-Oh!-- Duel Monsters" and "Cardcaptor Sakura" experienced incident with the Turkish public broadcaster for this reason during the series’ broadcast.
In 2011, Argentian cartoonist Kcho's "El Tunel" (The Tunnel) was banned for censorship. Although the book is available in Spain, Kcho says published in Argentina for free. The cartoonist has no idea where it will go next, but nothing is off the table, including Europe, the United States or Turkey.
The enchâlnment started on March 27, 2013. It has reported the following steps taken for the settlement on 8 March 2013:
